US-189; Wallsburg to Charleston

UDOT is currently in the process of conducting a state environmental study (SES) and developing a roadway design to improve vehicle capacity and address safety deficiencies on US-189 between mile reference posts 22.3 and 25.5 in Wasatch County, near Deer Creek Reservoir.

Project improvements include:

  • Widening US-189 to include two travel lanes in each direction, for the northbound and southbound traffic.

  • Intersection and roadway curvature safety improvements.

  • Significant hillside excavation and rock cutting to accommodate the road widening.

    • Note: The excavated hillside soils would be placed along the east side of US-189 and then shaped and vegetated to match the surrounding hillside conditions. Click this link to see a visual example of how the excavated hillside soils would look.

  • Signalizing the US-189 and SR-113 intersection.

  • Enhancing the Island Beach Day Use Area entrance.

  • Installing wildlife protection measures.
