Project Description
The project team is finazing the last few steps for US-189 Wallsburg to Charleston widening project near Deer Creek Resevor, in Wasatch County.
Construction is anticpated to start later this summer.
Some of the main work items include:
Widening US-189 to include two travel lanes in each direction, for the northbound and southbound traffic.
Intersection and roadway curvature safety improvements.
Significant hillside excavation and rock cutting to make space for the road widening.
Excavated hillside soils would be placed along the east side of US-189 and then shaped and vegetated to match the surrounding hillside conditions. Click this link to see a visual example of how the excavated hillside soils would look.
Signalizing the US-189 and SR-113 intersection.
Enhancing the Island Beach Day Use Area entrance.
Installing wildlife protection measures.
The team held a public hearing as part of the environmental documentation process in January 2024. See the "Public Hearing (January 31, 2024)" tab to review preliminary design information presented at the public hearing.
