Project Overview

We are improving safety on U.S. Route 40, in Fruitland Utah. Some of the improvements include widening sections of US-40 to extend the east and westbound passing lanes between 45000 West and 47000 West. Improvements will also be made to intersections by adding left-hand turn lanes throughout the project area, an eastbound right-hand turn lane at 45000 West, a right-hand turn lanes in both directions at 46000 West, an eastbound right-hand turn lane at 47000 West, and acceleration lanes for traffic merging onto US-40.

Work was paused in late-2025 during the winter months. Work resumed on June 22, 2026 and is scheduled to be complete in August 2026. 

Upcoming Work:

  • In June through early July, crews will begin work by hauling in granular barrow for the remaining roadway shoulder widening work near 45000 West.
    • While shoulder widening activities are underway, traffic will be shifted around the work zones with one-way flagging possible.
  • In July, crews are scheduled to finish milling and paving US-40 between 45000 West and 47000 West.
    • While paving operations are underway, drivers can expect one-way traffic directed by pilot cars. Please plan for extra travel time while driving through the area.

What to Expect During Construction

  • Work is will occur Monday - Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with weekend work possible.
  • One lane in each direction will be maintained when possible but drivers should anticipate lane shifting, lane closures, and one-way flagging with a pilot car.
  • A 12-foot-wide load restriction is in place through the area.
  • Reduced speed limit of 55 mph through the work area

Design and Environmental: Spring - Winter 2024

The design and environmental phase of the project commenced in March 2023 and is now complete. UDOT identified ways to improve safety in the area and extend the passing lanes along US-40.

Any right-of-way coordination also occurred during this phase.
