I-80 | Parleys Canyon to Emory | Maintenance
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is improving drainage infrastructure on Interstate 80 (I-80) between Parleys Canyon and Emory by rehabilitating 50 miles of culverts.
Work will take place in the shoulder of I-80, and lane closures are not anticipated. Construction will take place from summer 2026 through fall 2026.
Overview
Plan Ahead: Overnight Ramp Closure at East Canyon Interchange (Exit 134)
Two Friday night closures ahead! The on-ramp to eastbound I-80 from East Canyon (Exit 134) will close for two weekends on Sept. 11 and Sept. 18 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. for utility work.
To head eastbound on I-80, drive to Exit 132 (1320 South) to turn around. Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

Drainage Improvements Coming to I-80
As part of our investment in the long-term health of Interstate 80 (I-80), we are improving the drainage infrastructure between Parleys Canyon and Emory. Construction will start as early as Thursday, Aug. 6 and continue through fall 2026. Rehabilitating this 50-mile stretch of culverts will protect the roadway and keep traffic moving
WHAT TO EXPECT
• Day work Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Shoulder closures along I-80

What is a Culvert?
A culvert is a tunnel-like structure that helps water flow under a road. This protects roads from potential damage, as water is directed away safely.
What is Culvert Rehabilitation?
Culvert rehabilitation involves repairing and strengthening the structures where water passes underneath the interstate. Over time, culverts can wear down or become damaged. By improving drainage, we can reduce the risk of flooding and protect the roadway for years to come
