Project Overview

The Utah Department of Transportation is adding new high-visibility lane striping, making lane lines easier to see and improving safety for drivers.

Crews will be installing new “tiger tail” lane striping. This pattern uses alternating white and black lines that are easier to see, especially at night or in wet conditions. In addition, the contrast is helpful for autonomous vehicle sensors and cameras.

In Utah, Salt Lake, Davis, Tooele, and Summit counties, lane markings were upgraded along sections of I-15, I-215, I-80, and SR-201.

An aerial view of a multi-lane highway showing different types of lane striping, with multiple vehicles driving in the same direction. To the right of the highway is a gravel embankment with a retaining wall and sparse landscaping.

Photo displays enhanced striping on the HOV and left lanes. Older striping is in the right lanes.
