Project Overview

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is working to improve the Wasatch Blvd (SR-190) Fort Union Blvd intersection. This project may include dual left turns from southbound to eastbound, bicycle lanes, trail crossings, signal upgrades, and other improvements to increase safety for motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit users at the intersection.

During peak times, southbound traffic can back up for significant distances requiring long queue lines and long waiting times. Additionally, some traffic bypasses the left turn lane and makes unsafe U-turns or illegal turning movements to avoid waiting. A traffic analysis will determine whether additional turning and receiving lanes and/or other safety improvements will shorten waiting times and improve mobility into and out of Big Cottonwood Canyon.

This project is also looking at improvements for all users to include hikers/walkers and cyclists by studying the need to include additional sidewalks, trails, bicycle lanes, and other improvements to help all users crossing the Wasatch Blvd Ft. Union Blvd intersection.
