Vernal Avenue | Main Street to Steinaker Reservoir | Paving

UDOT will be extending the life of pavement along US-191 (Vernal Avenue) between US-40 and Steinaker Overlook.

Project Overview

UDOT is improving five miles of US-191 (Vernal Avenue). Road work will take place from US-40 (Main Street) to the Steinaker Reservoir overlook. Crews will remove and replace the surface of the asphalt to help extend the life of the road. The project will also include safety and accessibility improvements, such as replacing some sidewalks and pedestrian ramps, installing new guardrail, and adding new road striping and signs.

These improvements will make US-191 safer and more reliable for everyone who travels through the area.

Project Timeline

Construction started on Monday, August 17, 2026. The project will be complete within two months.

Schedule

Work Hours: 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Workdays: Monday - Friday

Weekend and night work may take place as needed.

Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions and material availability.

Construction: August - October 2026

Crews are currently preparing the roadway for paving.

  • Paving is expected to start the week of September 14, 2026.
  • Expect lane closures, one-way traffic with flaggers, and up to 15-minute travel delays during work hours.

Project Milestones

Fall 2025: Design was completed and the project was advertised for construction.

August 17, 2026: Construction started. Crews lowered utility manholes in preparation for paving.

September 4, 2026: Crews completed upgrades on five pedestrian ramps to bring them up to current accessibility standards.
