US-89 | Southwest Kane County | Improved

US-89 | Southwest Kane County | Improved

Safety and traffic upgrades are coming to US-89 between mile markers 81.35 and 82.52. The project adds a new northbound passing lane, extends a major drainage pipe, and builds a paved walking and biking trail. Concrete barriers will protect trail users, and all permanent work remains within public property.

Overview

U.S. Route 89 Southwest Kane County Improved Project

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is proposing two projects that include improvements along U.S. Route 89 in southwest Kane County. One project includes adding a northbound passing lane between Mt. Carmel Junction and Muddy Creek Wash (from about milepost 81.3 to 82.52). The second project will install a multi-use path along the west side of U.S. Route 89, running from Orderville to Mt. Carmel Junction.

Public Hearing and Open House

A public meeting was held on June 25, 2025 to provide project information and solicit comments from the public. An additional public hearing was held on February 26, 2026 for the US-89 Muddy Creek to Orderville Trail Project to solicit comments and provide additional information.

Members of the public were invited to voice concerns live or in writing to the project team, and the project designs are being updated to address several of those concerns.

Trail Identification 2023

During its Fall 2023 statewide workshops, the Utah Trail Network identified the need for a multi-purpose path along the west side of US-89.
