US-89 | Passing Lanes Near Hatch | Safety Project

US-89 | Passing Lanes Near Hatch | Safety Project

This safety improvement project will add a one-mile passing lane in both the northbound and southbound directions on US-89 north and south of Hatch, Utah.

Overview

US-89; Passing Lanes Near Hatch

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will begin a safety improvement project on US-89 as early as Monday, September 14, 2026, to construct new passing lanes north and south of Hatch.

The project will widen US-89 to add a 12-foot northbound passing lane between MP 116.4 and MP 118.3 (north of Hatch) and a 12-foot southbound passing lane between MP 114.1 and MP 115.8 (south of Hatch).

Additional improvements include drainage and culvert upgrades, slope improvements, new guardrail at select locations, rumble strips, updated signing and striping, and improvements to affected side-road and driveway access. The project will also require permanent right-of-way and temporary construction easements at several locations to accommodate roadway widening, drainage work, and slope improvements.
