STATE STREET 3000 SOUTH TO 400 SOUTH PAVING

This Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) project will repave State Street (US-89) between 3000 South in South Salt Lake and 400 South in Salt Lake City, extending pavement life and improving safety along this important route.

Remember - On-street parking will be restricted while this project is underway. Any vehicles parked on the shoulder may be towed.

Below is an outline of upcoming work:

Segment 1: 3000 South to 1700 South (6/24-7/2)

  • Nighttime milling and paving along State Street have begun. Expect a single lane in each direction along State Street during nighttime hours with potential for daytime closures as well. We encourage drivers to take alternate routes.
    • The paving is anticipated to be complete by early July with other activities continuing through the summer.
  • Crews will continue lowering utilities at the intersections on Tuesday, June 25 from 7 PM – Midnight. Traffic may be reduced to one lane each direction and intersections movements may be restricted while work is underway. During this work, residents and businesses should expect noise and vibrations.

Segment 2: 1700 South to 400 South

  • Nighttime milling and paving along State Street between 1700 South and 400 South are scheduled to begin in July.

Daytime and nighttime work will occur daily, Tuesday through Sunday. Nighttime work will occur between 7:00 pm and 6:00 am.

What to Expect During Construction:

Vehicles:

  • While nighttime work is underway, State Street may be restricted down to one lane in each direction. Drivers are asked to slow down in the work zone and plan for minor delays.
  • During daytime hours, drivers should expect minor delays as lane closures will occur to accommodate the utility work.
  • Side street and business accesses will remain open during work except for brief periods of time when milling and paving operations are underway and when equipment passes directly in front of them.
  • On-street parking will be restricted while this project is underway. Any vehicles parked on the shoulder may be towed.
  • Following milling operations, loose gravel can be expected. Please reduce speeds and increase distance to avoid gravel damage to vehicles.
  • Car dealerships should move vehicles back from the front of the lot to avoid damage from gravel and debris.
  • Motorcycles should use extra caution when driving on the milled surfaces and watch for any uneven pavement.

Cyclists:

  • Cyclists should anticipate shoulder closures along State Street at any time during this project. Please use alternate routes until work is complete and traffic control devices are removed.

Transit:

  • Bus routes along State Street will be temporarily impacted while work is underway. Please see posted signage for route adjustments.
  • When crews conduct work where the UTA S-Line crosses State Street, additional lane closures may be needed, and trail detour routes will be in place. More details will be provided as this work approaches.
