SR-56 Reconstruction
SR-56 Reconstruction
Overview
The Utah Department of Transportation is currently designing safety and improved mobility upgrades to the SR-56; Iron Springs Intersection. This intersection (approximate MP 56 on SR-56) has been the site of multiple crashes with severe injuries and/or fatalities. The purpose of this project is to improve safety at the intersection of SR-56 and Iron Springs Road by converting the existing intersection to an unsignalized High-T intersection.
These improvements would:
-Reduce the number of through lanes on SR-56 from two lanes each direction to a single lane each direction with painted buffers between through lanes and turn lanes.
-Restrict movements onto SR-56 from 5300 West to right-in / right-out only.
-Provide full length deceleration lanes and turn pockets for eastbound left turns and westbound right turns onto Iron Springs Road.
-Provide full length acceleration lanes for southbound left turns from Iron Springs Road onto SR-56.
This project will also include pavement widening on SR-56 and Iron Springs Road, updates to signing and striping and drainage improvements.
