Overview

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) continued a sidewalk construction project along the south side of SR-171 (3500 South) from Wing Pointe Drive (7615 West) to Magnolia Street (7495 West). Work included building a new sidewalk to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility and promote walkability. It also included related curb and gutter and drainage improvements.

Project Milestones

UDOT has successfully completed the SR-171 Sidewalk Improvements project between Wing Pointe Drive and Magnolia Street in Magna. This effort delivered a new segment of sidewalk, improved pedestrian safety and accessibility, enhanced drainage, and included curb and gutter improvements along the corridor. Project milestones included final design development, right-of-way coordination, stakeholder outreach, construction communications, and construction completion. Construction began in March 2026 and was completed in spring 2026. Thank you to residents, businesses, local partners, and community stakeholders who helped make these improvements possible.

Completed Project Milestones

  • 2024: Project planning, final design development, and right-of-way coordination. 
  • 2025–2026: Public involvement planning, stakeholder outreach, project communications, project branding, website resources, and construction notifications. 
  • March 2026: Construction began along SR-171 between Wing Pointe Drive and Magnolia Street. 
  • Spring 2026: New sidewalk, drainage, curb, and gutter improvements completed.
  • Summer 2026: Project completion and closeout.
