SR-143 Parowan Canyon Safety Project
Nov 20 - Nov 24
A Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) road construction contractor is expected to begin flood repair work on an eight-mile segment of State Route 143 in Parowan Canyon on Monday.
Crews are planning to replace four culvert pipes between Parowan and Brian Head during the next two months. In January, work on damaged barrier walls is scheduled to begin. Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions and material availability. The project will repair damage caused by flooding in 2022 and improve drainage for the corridor.
Sections of SR-143 will be restricted to a single lane during work hours. A flagging operation and stop signals will provide alternating one-way passage. Drivers should be alert for construction activities in the area, observe posted construction zone, roadway speed limits and plan for extra travel time.
Traffic Restrictions: For the week of Thanksgiving, crews plan to work until noon on Wednesday. In work areas, traffic may be restricted to a single lane of alternating one-way traffic controlled by flagging operations during work hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
No work is planned for Wednesday Nov 22 afternoon through Sunday Nov 26 night and traffic will be able to flow normally.
The public is encouraged to visit the UDOT Traffic website or app at udottraffic.utah.gov for current closure status and construction activities.
