Project Description

To extend the life of 700 East (State Route 71), the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will resurface the asphalt, replace existing raised medians, and upgrade non-compliant ADA pedestrian ramps along 700 East (SR-71) between 400 South and 1700 South in Salt Lake City. Construction is planned for summer 2026. This work will help keep the road smooth, last longer, and make your daily drive more comfortable.

No major changes to the design of the road are expected. The same number of lanes will remain when the project is completed.

What to Expect:

700 East carries a lot of traffic as a major north/south connector through Salt Lake City, and so we expect that repaving will happen at night. Other impacts could include temporary “no parking” restrictions and lane closures during paving. We will share more updates when a contractor is selected, and work schedules are confirmed.

What you’ll see after construction:

  • A smoother roadway built to last another 5–10 years
  • Improved safety for all road users
