SR-224 | Kimball Junction | Improved

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is designing road, bike, and pedestrian improvements to the Kimball Junction area near Interstate 80 (I-80) and State Route 224 (SR-224).

Overview

Project Overview: A Better Way Through Kimball Junction

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is making road, bike, and pedestrian improvements on Interstate 80 (I-80) and State Route 224 (SR-224). These updates will make it safer and easier to get where you need to go.

What This Means for You

Spend Less Time in Traffic

  • Reduced delays during peak travel times
  • Fewer backups getting on and off I-80

Safer Travel for Everyone

  • A new pedestrian crossing on SR-224
  • Better bike lanes with added space from traffic
  • Improved walking and biking connections

What’s Changing

This solution was selected based on the results of an environmental study completed in 2025. Key improvements include:

  • More capacity added to the I-80 ramps
  • Additional turn lanes, travel lanes, and bike lanes on SR-224 intersections at Ute Boulevard and Olympic Parkway
  • Improvements on local roads and roundabouts
  • New east-west pedestrian crossing on SR-224 near Ute Boulevard
  • New buffered bike lanes on SR-224 from Olympic Parkway to Rasmussen Road
  • Improved trail connections
