Project Overview

What?

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is making safety and lighting improvements at select intersections.

Planned improvements include:

  • New signals where needed (including new posts and arms that hold the signals themselves)
  • New signal cabinets (replacing older technology and keeping equipment in good working order)
  • Improved vehicle detection (this helps the signal to sense traffic and improves traffic flow during peak traffic)
  • New or upgraded lighting (aims to improve visibility and safety)

Drivers and Residents should expect:

  • Temporary lane closures
  • Shoulder closures
  • Brief traffic shifts
  • Law enforcement may occasionally assist with traffic direction

Access to homes, businesses, and side streets will be maintained throughout construction.

Where?

This includes work in Salt Lake County as well as a few intersections in Summit County and Wasatch County. Please see below for the list of intersections that will see these improvements in the coming weeks.

Why?

These intersection improvements are part of UDOT's goal to Keep Utah Moving. Projects will focus on safety and reliability of each individual intersection and the roadway systems in each area more broadly. Upgrading traffic signals and roadway lighting will improve visibility, enhance intersection operations, and support safer travel for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists. All work will take place within the existing UDOT right-of-way, and no roadway widening or permanent access changes are planned.

When?

Work began in December 2025 and all planned improvements are scheduled to be completed by Summer 2026.

Current Work

Our crews will be working intermittently at various intersections in the coming weeks. Travelers can expect shoulder closures near the immediate work area while crews are working. Sometimes, traffic control may be assisted by law enforcement when crews work on overhead equipment. Below is a list of intersections that will be worked on over the coming weeks. To view a full list of intersections that will be upgraded over the course of the project, see the "Impacts and Updates" page.
