Project Overview

UDOT is planning upgrades to the eastbound I‑80 to US‑40 on-ramp in Summit County to improve traffic flow and safety near Kimball Junction. The project will add a 12‑foot eastbound merge lane from the Kimball Junction on‑ramp through the I-80 EB to US-40 EB interchange ramp and just beyond the US-40 EB Silver Summit off‑ramp. The additional lane will reduce congestion by expanding both freeways and the interchange ramp. Other improvements include:

  • Installing new overhead signage

  • Improving drainage to support stormwater management and roadway performance

  • Improving snow removal by installing an additional camera to monitor snow on the US-40 WB to I-80 WB fly-over

  • Improving lighting along the I-80 EB to US-40 EB interchange ramp

This project is in the design phase, and construction is anticipated to begin in 2027. More information about construction timing and impacts will be shared as details are finalized.

This project is part of a series of improvement projects along Parley's Canyon and the I‑80 corridor, where multiple upgrades are being coordinated to modernize the roadway and support future growth. More information on regional projects can be found on the Summit County & Parley's Canyon website.
