Upcoming Traffic Impacts: Ramp and Lane Closures*

As part of the I-215 and I-80 interchange, several major ramp closures began on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at 8 p.m. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, follow posted detour routes, allow extra travel time, and consider alternate routes, including I-15, when traveling through the area.
Northbound I-215 to Westbound I-80
- The northbound I-215 to westbound I-80 ramp is closed through September 2
- Airport access: Drivers traveling to Salt Lake City International Airport should use I-15 as an alternate route during this closure
- A signed detour route will be available via the 700 North exit. Motorists can use the continuous U-turn to enter southbound I-215 and proceed to westbound I-80
Northbound I-215 to Eastbound I-80
- The northbound I-215 to eastbound I-80 ramp is closed through September 2
Northbound I-215 to Redwood Road
- The northbound I-215 to Redwood Road ramp is closed through October 2
Redwood Road to Northbound I-215
- The ramp from Redwood Road to northbound I-215 is closed through July 2027
- The ramp from Redwood Road to southbound I-215 is currently open

Eastbound and Westbound I-80 Lane Restrictions
- Expect nightly lane restrictions on I-80 each night from 9 p.m. through the early morning hours
- These nightly restrictions will continue through the next week
All Traffic Shifted to West Side of I-215
- All traffic has been shifted to newly reconstructed pavement on the west side of I-215 as construction progresses into the next phase
Ongoing Local Street Traffic Impacts*
The bridges over each of the streets below are being rehabilitated. Expect various restrictions during construction activities.
Cross Street Closures
- 500 South: Expect intermittent traffic restrictions and lane shifts
- Indiana Avenue: Expect intermittent traffic restrictions and lane shifts
- California Avenue: Expect intermittent turning movement restrictions and lane shifts
- 1700 South: Expect intermittent traffic restrictions and lane shifts
Project Overview
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is working on a major construction rehabilitation project on I-215 West from SR-201 to North Temple. Construction is expected to continue through Summer 2027. Project Elements include:
- Roadway reconstruction
- Rehabilitation of 30 bridges
- Pavement reconstruction on 14 miles of ramps on I-80 and California Avenue
- New southbound auxiliary lane from 700 North to westbound I-80
