Project Overview

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is starting a major construction rehabilitation project on I-215 West from SR-201 to North Temple. Project Elements include:

• Roadway reconstruction
• Rehabilitation of 22 bridges
• Pavement reconstruction on 14 miles of ramps on I-80 and California Avenue

Upcoming Traffic Impacts*

Emergency Repair: Southbound I-215 and I-80 Ramps

• Southbound I-215 traffic near I-80 will be reduced to one lane beginning at 10 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, through 5 p.m. Sunday, December 21. Please use caution, expect delays, and follow posted signage. 
• The southbound I-215 ramps to both westbound and eastbound I-80 will be closed starting at 10 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, through 5 p.m. Sunday, December 21. Please consider using I-15 during this closure or remain on southbound I-215 and exit westbound SR-201 as an alternate route. Please use caution, expect delays, and follow posted signage. 

Holiday Hours

• Both daytime and nighttime construction activities will continue through 6 a.m. on Wednesday, December 24, and will resume on Monday, January 5 in recognition of the holiday season. 

Ongoing I-215 Traffic Impacts*

• All traffic is shifted to the east side of I-215 through next Summer.
• Expect overnight lane and ramp closures.

Ongoing Local Street Traffic Impacts*

The bridges over each of the streets below are being rehabilitated. Expect various restrictions during construction activities. 

Cross Street Closures

• 500 South: 500 South is restricted to one lane in each direction and lane shifts through the end of March
• Indiana Avenue: Expect intermittent traffic restrictions and lane shifts through the end of March
• California Avenue: Expect intermittent turning movement restrictions and lane shifts through the end of March
• 1700 South: Expect intermittent traffic restrictions and lane shifts through the end of March

Ongoing Construction Activities 

• Construction activities continue to progress on the west side of I-215 including:
• Installation of a new drainage system
• Placement of barrier
• Removal of the road surface
• Demolition of the top layers and sides of various bridges

• Noise, dust, and vibration
• Heavy equipment, support vehicles, and crew members in the area
