Project Overview

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is starting a major construction rehabilitation project on I-215 West from SR-201 to North Temple. Project Elements include:

• Roadway reconstruction
• Rehabilitation of 22 bridges
• Pavement reconstruction on 14 miles of ramps on I-80 and California Avenue

Traffic Impacts*

Upcoming

I-215 Northbound Lane Closures

• Northbound I-215 will be reduced to one lane starting at 9 p.m. Friday, October 24 through the evening of Saturday, October 25 for pothole repairs. Drivers should expect delays and plan for extra travel time during this period

I-215 West Traffic Switch

• Both directions of traffic will be shifted to the East side of I-215 to allow for crews to work on the West side starting Saturday, November 8

North Temple Closure

• North Temple from Redwood Road to 2200 West will be closed Friday, November 15 through Sunday, November 17
  • ​Follow the posted detours. Driveways east of I-215 will be maintained. Motorists should follow traffic control devices and flaggers.

I-215 West

• Intermittent overnight lane closures will affect both Northbound and Southbound I-215 through the end of October
• The ramp from Redwood Road near I-80 to I-215 NB is closed through the end of October. Please follow the posted detour or consider an alternate route
• I-215 NB is reduced to 3 lanes that are shifted to the east and will remain in place through early November
• I-215 SB is reduced to 3 lanes that are shifted to the west and will remain in place through early November

Local Streets

The bridges over each of the streets below are being rehabilitated. Expect various restrictions during construction activities.

• 500 South: 500 South is restricted to one lane in each direction and lane shifts through the end of October
• Indiana Avenue: Expect intermittent traffic restrictions and lane shifts through the end of the year
• California Avenue: Expect intermittent turning movement restrictions and lane shifts through the end of the year
• 1700 South: Expect intermittent traffic restrictions and lane shifts through the end of the year 

Traffic Activities

• In the center of I-215, crews are installing pipes and drain boxes for the new drainage system
• In addition to other site work, crews are placing false decking on several bridge structures to ensure safety and containment during the demolition process
