Upcoming Traffic Impacts: Ramp and Lane Closures*

As the I-215 West Improved Project reaches its halfway point, construction continues to make significant progress. Nearly 200 crew members are on site each day working to rebuild this corridor.

The traffic impacts below represent a major construction milestone. As work progresses, motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and remain alert to changing traffic patterns.

All Traffic Shifted to West Side of I-215

• Starting Saturday, June 20, at 9 p.m. crews will continue shifting southbound traffic to the west side of I-215 onto the new driving surface between 700 North and I-80
• Drivers should expect lane and ramp closures and changing traffic patterns through Sunday, June 28

Ongoing Traffic Impacts*

As part of the I-215 and I-80 interchange, 11 bridges in this area need to be improved. To allow for a safe construction zone and to provide an efficient construction duration, the ramps in this area will intermittently close through August 2026*. Details of each ramp closure are included below. During these closures, please allow extra time when traveling in the area or consider an alternate route.

Eastbound I-80 Ramps to Northbound I-215

• The eastbound ramp to northbound I-215 is closed through July 20.
• During this time, there will be no access to northbound I-215 from I-80.

Westbound I-80 Ramps to Northbound I-215

• The westbound Ramp to northbound I-215 is closed through July 20.
• During this time, there will be no access to northbound I-215 from I-80.

I-80 Westbound Ramp to Southbound I-215

• The westbound I-80 ramp to southbound I-215 is closed and is expected to open mid-August

Redwood Road to Northbound I-215

• The ramp from Redwood Road to northbound I-215 will be closed through July 2027

Ongoing Local Street Traffic Impacts*

The bridges over each of the streets below are being rehabilitated. Expect various restrictions during construction activities. 

Cross Street Closures

• 500 South: Expect intermittent traffic restrictions and lane shifts
• Indiana Avenue: Expect intermittent traffic restrictions and lane shifts
• California Avenue: Expect intermittent turning movement restrictions and lane shifts
• 1700 South: Expect intermittent traffic restrictions and lane shifts

Project Overview

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is working on a major construction rehabilitation project on I-215 West from SR-201 to North Temple. Construction is expected to continue through Summer 2027. Project Elements include:

• Roadway reconstruction
• Rehabilitation of 30 bridges
• Pavement reconstruction on 14 miles of ramps on I-80 and California Avenue
• New southbound auxiliary lane from 700 North to westbound I-80
