Project Overview

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is starting a major construction rehabilitation project on I-215 West from SR-201 to North Temple. Project Elements include:

• Roadway reconstruction
• Rehabilitation of 30 bridges
• Pavement reconstruction on 14 miles of ramps on I-80 and California Avenue

Upcoming Traffic Impacts*

I-80 Lane and Ramp Restrictions

• Both directions of I-80 near I-215 will be reduced to one lane on the evenings of Thursday (March 19), Friday (March 20), and Monday (March 23) from 9 p.m. through the early morning hours.
• During these times, expect intermittent ramp closures.

California Avenue Road Closure

• California Avenue, under I-215, will be full closed from Friday, March 27 at 9 p.m. through Saturday, March 28 at 6 a.m.
• The on and off-ramps at California Avenue will remain open, but left-turn movements at the interchange will be restricted.

I-215 Southbound California Avenue Off-ramp and On-ramp Closure

• As early as April 23, for approximately 3 weeks, the Southbound I-215 California Avenue off-ramp and on-ramp will be closed.
• Use SR-201 as an alternate route to access the area.

I-215 Northbound California Avenue Off-ramp and On-ramp Closure

• As early as July 28, for approximately 3 weeks, the Northbound I-215 California Avenue off-ramp and on-ramp will be closed.
• Use SR-201 as an alternate route to access the area.

Upcoming Traffic Impacts: I-215 / I-80 Interchange Ramps*

As part of the I-215 and I-80 interchange, 11 bridges in this area need to be improved. To allow for a safe construction zone and to provide an efficient construction duration, the ramps in this area will close between April through August*. Details of each ramp closure are included below. During these closures, please allow extra time when traveling in the area or consider an alternate route.

Ongoing I-215 Traffic Impacts*

• All traffic is shifted to the east side of I-215 through next Summer.
• Expect overnight lane and ramp closures.

Ongoing Local Street Traffic Impacts*

The bridges over each of the streets below are being rehabilitated. Expect various restrictions during construction activities. 

Cross Street Closures

• 500 South: 500 South is restricted to one lane in each direction and lane shifts through the end of March
• Indiana Avenue: Expect intermittent traffic restrictions and lane shifts through the end of March
• California Avenue: Expect intermittent turning movement restrictions and lane shifts through the end of March
• 1700 South: Expect intermittent traffic restrictions and lane shifts through the end of March

Ongoing Construction Activities 

• Construction activities continue to progress on the west side of I-215 including:
• Installation of a new drainage system
• Placement of barrier
• Removal of the road surface
• Demolition of the top layers and sides of various bridges
