Statewide Study Overview
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), Utah Transit Authority (UTA), and Utah's Urban Rural Specialized Transit Association (URSTA) are working together to study public transportation across the state as well as specialized transportation for vulnerable populations. The statewide study launched in March 2026, focuses on developing strategies better aligned with the unique transit needs of rural communities across Utah. Similar to the Wasatch Front study it will
- Assess existing conditions
- Identify statewide priorities
- Identify gaps, unmet mobility needs, and barriers to public transportation across the state
- Identify opportunities to improve transit access and connectivity, particularly in rural and underserved communities
The study will culminate in a set of actionable, organized recommendations and strategies, and a phased implementation roadmap.
In addition to the Statewide Transit and Humans Services study, UDOT, UTA, and URSTA have partnered to complete a Wasatch Front Human Services Transportation study. For information about urban efforts visit the Wasatch Front Study page.
Interactive Map:
To better understand where the demand for specialized transportation services exists within Utah, an interactive map was created. The map brings together U.S. Census data and locations of key community resources, offering an easy‑to‑understand view of who lives in the region and where services are available.
