Study Overview

UTA and UDOT are partnering to conduct an environmental study to assess the impacts of potential FrontRunner improvements in the southern part of Salt Lake County near Bluffdale and Draper cities. This study, along with the FrontRunner 2X project, will support efforts to expand commuter rail service along the Wasatch Front. UTA and UDOT will explore the impacts of a potential new station and the additional double tracking required to maintain 15-minute peak service frequency made possible by the FrontRunner 2X project.

Study Areas

 

POTENTIAL TOTAL LENGTH OF ADDITIONAL TRACK REQUIRED: 5.4 MILES

Segments under consideration:

1. North of Lehi Extension
2. North of Vineyard
3. Vineyard to Orem
4. North of Provo

Study Timeline

A blue, black, and white timeline is broken into six segments. Segment 1: Draft Purpose and Need during Summer 2024; Goals include identify existing and future conditions and define goals and objectives Segment 2: Preliminary Environmental Impacts Assessment during Summer 2024; Goals include develop feasible alternatives and analyze impacts to the human and natural resources within the study areas Segment 3: Public Engagement during Summer 2024; Goals include local government meetings and information gathering Segment 4: Environmental Study and Documentation during Fall 2024 through Early 2025; Goal includes conduct in-depth analysis of impacts of alternatives within the study areas Segment 5: Complete Environmental during Spring 2025; Goal includes environmental decision Segment 6: Final Design and Contractor Procurement during Fall 2025; Goals include complete segment designs and obtain final approval from state and federal agencies
