US-40 Fiber Optics

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is preparing to install middle-mile fiber optics along US-40 to support last-mile connectivity to communities across northeastern Utah, the Uintah Basin and Ute tribal lands. This project is part of UDOT's broader effort to expand and modernize the state's fiber optic infrastructure, enhancing connectivity and supporting Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) throughout Utah.

UDOT plans to complete network design and environmental documentation by summer 2025. Design work will be completed in segments, with construction on the first segment set to begin as early as fall 2025. Due to funding requirements, the project must be completed by Dec. 31, 2026.

This project will install over 100 miles of new fiber optic cable to connect and improve broadband access to rural areas.
