US-40 | Heber City | Safety Project
US-40 | Heber City | Safety Project
The US-40 Heber City Safety Project will install concrete median barriers and consolidate left turns on US-40 (River Rd to 1200 N) to improve safety and reduce serious crashes.
Project Overview
UDOT is designing median barrier segments on U.S. Route 40 north of Heber City to improve safety between River Road and 1200 North.
The 42-inch-tall concrete barriers will separate traffic traveling in opposite directions, reducing the risk of fatal and serious injury crashes that occur when vehicles crossover into oncoming traffic or turn left at unsignalized locations. The barriers will consolidate left turns to specific intersections: College Way, Commons Boulevard, and Coyote Canyon Parkway.
A traffic signal at Coyote Canyon Parkway was installed in the summer of 2025. The intersections at College Way and Commons Boulevard will have traffic signals installed with the median barrier project. In areas with median barriers, travelers would need to turn right and perform a U-turn at the nearest intersection.
UDOT hosted an in-person public meeting on July 17th to present historical crash data, share information about the safety benefits and operational improvements of the proposed median barriers, and gather community input. Visit the "Public Meeting" tab for meeting details.
Project Map
UDOT is proposing installing three segments of concrete median barrier on US-40 between River Road and 1200 North with planned breaks at the intersections of College Way, Commons Boulevard, and Coyote Canyon Parkway.
Project Timeline
During the summer of 2025, a traffic impact study in the area was completed and a public meeting was held July 17, 2025. The design of the safety improvements and the required environmental study are taking place during winter 2025 - 2026.
