The Utah Department of Transportation is planning improvements to the intersection of SR-121 (500 North) and 1500 West. The project will enhance traffic flow, improve safety, and accommodate current and future traffic volumes. 

Overview

Project Overview

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will begin construction at the SR-121 (500 North) & 1500 West intersection in Vernal to improve motorist and pedestrian safety. Improvements include some road widening at the intersections and new pedestrian sidewalks/crosswalks at all four corners which will be tied to the new Steinaker Service Canal. Additionally, updated traffic signals, storm drainage, and intersection corners enhanced to allow safer turns for drivers.

Improvements include:

  • Road restoration & widening

    • NB/SB: Separate left and shared through-right

    • EB/WB: Separate left, through, and right

  • Updated storm drainage (with Ashley Central Irrigation)

  • Upgraded sidewalk/crosswalk(s)

  • Traffic signal upgrades

  • Final paving

These upgrades are designed to support growth in the area while enhancing mobility and pedestrian safety.

  • Traffic signal testing, activation, and commissioning
  • Final paving, striping, pavement markings, and signage installation

Completed Milestones

  • Mobilization and traffic control setup
  • Survey work
  • Installation of inlet barriers, stabilized construction entrance, and silt fence
  • Temporary fencing installed and existing fencing removed at the SW corner
  • Reconstruction of catch basin, manhole, and cleanout box (east side)
  • Sidewalk and curb & gutter removal
  • Tree removal, clearing, and grubbing
  • Roadway excavation and drainage pipe/structure installation
  • Guardrail removal (NE corner)
  • Traffic signal foundation work (excavation, rebar cages, concrete pour at NE and SW corners)
  • HMA paving on the east side
  • Continued signal foundation and conduit work at the NE and SW corners
  • Transition to the west side of the intersection, including curb, gutter, sidewalk, and subgrade work
