Project Overview

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is starting a major construction rehabilitation project on I-215 West from SR-201 to North Temple. Project Elements include:

• Roadway reconstruction
• Rehabilitation of 22 bridges
• Pavement reconstruction on 14 miles of ramps on I-80 and California Avenue

Upcoming Traffic Impacts*

North Temple Road Closure

• North Temple from 1940 West to 2200 West will be fully closed Friday, March 13 starting at 8 p.m. through the morning hours of Sunday, March 15. Follow the posted detours. Driveways east of I-215 will be maintained. Motorists should follow traffic control devices and flaggers.
• A bus bridge will operate in place of the UTA TRAX Green Line during this time. Visit www.rideuta.com/disruptions for more information.

I-215 SB Lane Closures

• I-215 southbound will be reduced to one lane near I-80 to just south of California Avenue, from Friday, March 13 at 10 p.m. through Saturday, March 14 at 10 a.m.
• The southbound I-215 off-ramp at California Avenue will be fully closed from Friday, March 13 at 10 p.m. through Saturday, March 14 at 10 a.m. Please follow posted detours.

California Avenue Road Closure

• California Avenue, under I-215, will be fully closed from Friday, March 20 at 10 p.m. through Saturday, March 21 at 6 a.m.
• The on and off-ramps at California Avenue will remain open, but left-turn movements at the interchange will be restricted.

1700 South Road Closure

• 1700 S will be fully closed from Monday, March 23 at 10 p.m. through Tuesday, March 24 at 6 a.m.

Ongoing I-215 Traffic Impacts*

• All traffic is shifted to the east side of I-215 through next Summer.
• Expect overnight lane and ramp closures.

Ongoing Local Street Traffic Impacts*

The bridges over each of the streets below are being rehabilitated. Expect various restrictions during construction activities. 

Cross Street Closures

• 500 South: 500 South is restricted to one lane in each direction and lane shifts through the end of March
• Indiana Avenue: Expect intermittent traffic restrictions and lane shifts through the end of March
• California Avenue: Expect intermittent turning movement restrictions and lane shifts through the end of March
• 1700 South: Expect intermittent traffic restrictions and lane shifts through the end of March

Ongoing Construction Activities 

• Construction activities continue to progress on the west side of I-215 including:
• Installation of a new drainage system
• Placement of barrier
• Removal of the road surface
• Demolition of the top layers and sides of various bridges
